My academic research is focused on enhancing active pharmaceutical ingredient purification (crystallization) and isolation (filtration, washing and drying) and on enhancing sustainability through application of innovative approaches including continuous processing and minimisation of solvent consumption.
I have been active in industrial crystallization for almost 40 years, mostly in the pharmaceutical industry. Prior to joining academia, I spent 14 years with GSK where as a senior scientific leader I had responsibility for technology and innovation at the drug substance / drug product interface. Major projects included; accelerating drug and product development; continuous crystallization and isolation, continuous secondary processing; automated filtration and washing and in-situ crystallization monitoring and control. I also led the particle science aspects of development for a number of drug candidates.
