DEREK JONES

Chief Executive Officer, Babraham Research Campus

He joined Babraham in 2008 as Chief Business Officer with responsibility for the knowledge exchange and commercialisation (KEC) of the Babraham Institutes intellectual property portfolio. Derek became CEO of BBT in 2010. Following restructuring of the business in 2013, BBT’s primarily focus has been on the development and management of the campus.

During his time at the Babraham Research Campus he has been instrumental in the spin-out of Crescendo Biologics from intellectual property developed at the Babraham Institute; overseen over £70M of investment into the campus; delivered deals with Imperial College London, and BioMed Realty US, and launched Accelerate@Babraham a life science bio-incubator-accelerator programme.

Derek has a 1st degree in Chemistry, a Masters in Information Technology, an MBA as the first cohort of the Cambridge University Judge Business School MBA programme, and is a Chartered Director. He is a non-executive director at Rothamsted Enterprises at Rothamsted Research, and at One Nucleus. He also sits on the Cambridge University Enterprise Investment Committee, and is a fellow of Lucy Cavendish College Cambridge.
