BODIL VAN NIEL

Director of Chemistry, Charles River Laboratories.

Bodil has over 30 years’ experience in drug discovery research gained in large pharma and the CRO environment. After completing a PhD in organic chemistry, her medicinal chemistry career started at Merck with a focus on CNS drug discovery. She then joined Charles River Laboratories (CRL) which expanded opportunities to work in diverse therapeutic areas including lung diseases, inflammation, and pain. In her role as a Director of Chemistry, she is a senior leader in the Small Molecule Drug Discovery Division, leading the management of an in-sourced chemistry team that she established at the client site. During her career she has made key contributions which have resulted in the identification of drug development candidates, 43 patent applications and 18 publications.
Bodil is currently developing a Global Outsourcing Model with select CRO partners. Such collaborative relationships between CROs advance programs with speed, scalability, value and reduced management burden for the client to oversee multiple individual providers. This new model can offer seamless transition of projects from discovery to pre-clinical and clinical development through combining comprehensive CRO synergies.
