Pharma Integrates 2019, which took place on 18th and 19th November, saw over 450 delegates from biotech, pharma, CDMOs and the supply chain come together to debate and share insights on key topics currently affecting the industry.

The phenomenally successful two-day event, now in its 8th year, opened with a welcome address from the ABPI President and  Novartis UK Managing Director of UK, Ireland & Nordics, Haseeb Ahmad. Interviewed by the Director of Arix Bioscience plc and e-Therapeutics, Trevor Jones CBE, Optum CEO Sir Andrew Witty commented on the importance of improving health systems for all, whilst AstraZeneca Executive Vice President, Menelas Pangalos, discussed the changing nature of drug discovery and its implications for the pharma industry.

A range of panel discussions set the tone during Pharma Integrates, with themes focusing on tactics, technology and treatment. Within this framework, delegates and panellists shared ideas and engaged in lively debate on key issues, including how to win the talent war, making the most of strategic relationships, optimising the supply chain, ensuring the delivery of cutting-edge cell and gene therapies to patients fast and, of course, the ever-controversial Brexit! The spirit of collaboration was very much alive and well throughout, being the recurring focus of many debates.

The programme’s concluding discussion, The changing winds in rare disease, brought home the perspectives of patient and family groups, and highlighted the desperate need to drive funds and drug development in these disease areas.

The Pharma Integrates blog series, which will dive deeper into the conference themes and their wider context, will be available on the Insights section of the Life Science Integrates website shortly.
