RON JORTNER

Managing Director & Trustee, Masthead Biosciences & Cambridge Rare Disease Network

A scientist and entrepreneur based in Cambridge, UK, Dr Ron Jortner is founder and managing director of Masthead Biosciences, which evaluates new treatments and technology in biomedicine.

He is also a trustee of the Cambridge Rare Disease Network (CRDN), where he manages the charity’s industry links via the CRDN Companies Forum.

Ron works closely with rare disease stakeholders at both Masthead Biosciences and CRDN, including patient groups, industry leaders, clinicians, and scientists. In addition, his experience includes work on CNS, pain, medical devices, machine learning, diagnostics, and anti-infectives.

Previously, he held scientific research positions at the MRC Laboratory for Molecular Biology, and other elite scientific institutions worldwide; his research always combining biology, computational modelling, and technology. Ron completed his PhD in computational neuroscience at Caltech and the Hebrew University, and his B.Sc. (Magna cum laude) at the Hebrew University.

He enjoys rock climbing, martial arts, music, and improvisation theatre.
