RUSSELL HARRIS

Director of the Future Manufacturing Processes Research Group, School of Mechanical Engineering, University of Leeds

Professor Russell Harris is the Director of the Future Manufacturing Processes Research Group in the School of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Leeds.

His research focuses on new manufacturing technology and systems of computer-controlled production across a wide range of high-value applications, particularly including healthcare. He has over 100 publications, including the Proceedings of the Royal Society and the Lancet.

He has received grant awards as principal investigator from the EPSRC, EC Framework Programme, and Department of Health, alongside industry funding. His research has been recognised on three separate occasions by annual prize awards from the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. These are for Structural Technology and Materials in 2003, for Engineering in Medicine in 2007, and for Materials: Design and Applications in 2011. The sustained contribution and impact of his research over time has been recognised by the award of the Queen’s Anniversary Prize for High Value Manufacturing in 2013.
