Dr Simon Hirst, Founder and CEO of Sygnature Group, is an experienced life science entrepreneur with a small molecule drug discovery background. A medicinal chemist by training with 30 years’ experience of the full spectrum of drug discovery programmes, Simon has built Sygnature Group into one of the leading drug discovery and pre-clinical services companies in the world.

Simon has a BSc in chemistry, a PhD in synthetic organic chemistry from the University of Nottingham and undertook post-doctoral research at the University of Pittsburgh. His corporate experience includes major pharma (AstraZeneca), mid-cap biotech (OSI Pharmaceuticals) and a small technology company (CombiPure Ltd) in a range of scientific and management roles. He has held a number of board positions over the last 17 years including most recently at Peak Proteins Ltd, and Sygil Group Ltd. Currently he is also a Director of Step Pharma, a Paris based, venture capital backed, biotech company in addition to CEO of Sygnature.

During his time at Sygnature he has established a strong leadership team with an impressive track record of entrepreneurship and commercial success. Sygnature and its senior team have won a number of awards, including the prestigious Queens Award for Export. In 2017 Simon was awarded the RSC’s Chemistry World Entrepreneur of the Year.
