SIMON McMASTER

Director, Footfalls & Heartbeats

Simon McMaster BSc, is a New Zealand scientist who has developed a ground breaking process for manufacturing smart fabric. He founded Footfalls & Heartbeats in 2010 after the idea of a knitted sensor came to him as he was making muffins for breakfast.

Growing up in New Zealand gave Simon an egalitarian approach to business which is reflected in the founding values for Footfalls & Heartbeats.

Now based in Nottingham, Simon’s experience in intelligent textile research and development has enabled a network of academic and commercial partners to work with Footfalls to refine and adapt the technology to suit many sectors of society.

When Simon is not working or reading about work he can be found windsurfing near an empty beach or cheering on the All Blacks.
